Where Aspen Creek started

Heating and air conditioning in Broomfield, CO

Aspen Creek Heating & Air started in Broomfield in 2010 and ran out of the Nevins’ house in Broomfield Heights until 2025. Our shop on Flagg Dr sits right on the Lafayette/Broomfield border.

Broomfield is home turf for us. Dan and Shannon Nevin started Aspen Creek here in 2010 and ran the business out of their house in Broomfield Heights for 15 years before moving to the shop on Flagg Dr in January 2025. Two of their three kids grew up here and now work on the crew.

Call us with a furnace that quit, an AC that won’t keep up, or a water heater that’s leaking, and you get the family. We repair and service every major brand, install high-efficiency Rheem systems, and give free estimates on new equipment.

What we see in Broomfield homes

Looking west from the Broomfield area to the Flatirons and the snow-capped Indian Peaks
Broomfield, Colorado

Broomfield grew in waves, and each wave left a different kind of system behind. The first homes went up in the 1950s in Broomfield Heights, the original “First Filing” north of 120th between Main Street and US 287, when veterans bought in on GI Bill loans. The town grew fastest in the 1970s, then again from the 1990s on, with Interlocken, Flatiron Crossing, Arista and the newer neighborhoods in the north like Anthem and Wildgrass.

In the older parts of town we often find furnaces that have been replaced two or three times on ductwork that was sized for something else, add-on central air, and plenty of swamp coolers still doing their job. Homes from the 1970s through the 1990s are where we see the most original or second-generation equipment at the end of its life. Most gas furnaces last somewhere around 15 to 20 years and most central air conditioners around 12 to 15, depending on how they were installed and cared for.

The newer homes up north mostly have high-efficiency condensing furnaces. Those vent through PVC pipe and drain water, so a clogged or frozen condensate line is one of the most common no-heat calls we get from Anthem and Wildgrass in a cold snap.

Broomfield permits, utilities and rebates

Broomfield requires a permit to install or replace a furnace, air conditioner, heat pump or boiler, and every water heater needs one too, replacements included. Permits come from the City and County of Broomfield Building Division, which aims to review like-for-like furnace, AC and water heater replacements in one to three business days. Contractors you hire have to be licensed by the City and County of Broomfield. If you are getting quotes, ask whether the permit is included.

Your electric company depends on which part of Broomfield you live in. United Power serves the northern part of the city and Xcel Energy the southern part, and Xcel supplies natural gas everywhere. That matters for rebates, because heat pump and efficiency rebates come from your electric utility. Broomfield lists the current options on its Save Energy page, including Xcel Energy rebates, United Power rebates and Xcel’s Home Energy Squad visits. Amounts change through the year, so check the program page or ask us when we write your estimate. Shannon can help with the paperwork.
