Honest advice

Repair or replace? Here’s how we decide.

Nobody wants to buy a furnace they did not need, or keep pouring money into one that is done. This is the same thinking Dan walks customers through at the kitchen table.

Four questions that settle it

  1. Is it safe?

A cracked heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into your home. When we find one on an older furnace, replacement is almost always the right answer. Safety comes before cost every time.

  2. How old is it?

Under about ten years, most repairs are worth doing. Past fifteen on a furnace, or past twelve on an air conditioner, we look harder at what the repair buys you.

  3. What does the repair cost compared with the system’s value?

A common rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than about half of a new system and the equipment is in the back half of its life, replacement starts to make more sense. An igniter or capacitor on an old furnace is still usually worth fixing.

  4. How much is it costing you to run?

Rising gas and electric bills, rooms that never get comfortable and repeat breakdowns all count. Today’s high-efficiency furnaces and heat pumps can cut those bills, and that belongs in the math.

What you get from us either way

  • A clear explanation of what failed, in plain language
  • The repair price before any work starts. Repairs are only made with your approval.
  • A free estimate on a replacement if one is worth considering, so you can compare side by side
  • Help with Xcel Energy rebates when you replace. Shannon can help with the paperwork.

Customers who have been with us for ten and twenty years say the same thing in their reviews: honest estimates and fair pricing. That reputation is worth more to us than any single sale.

Questions we hear a lot

How long does a furnace last in Colorado?

A well-maintained gas furnace often lasts 15 to 20 years, and some go longer. Air conditioners and heat pumps are usually closer to 10 to 15. Annual maintenance makes a real difference to both numbers.

Will you try to sell me a new system?

No. Several of our reviews come from people who called us for a second opinion after another company’s quote. If a repair makes sense, we will say so. If it does not, we will explain why.

Do you give free estimates on new equipment?

Yes. Estimates for a new furnace, air conditioner, heat pump or mini-split are free.

Are there rebates on new equipment?

Often, yes. Xcel Energy offers rebates on qualifying high-efficiency equipment, and programs change from year to year. We will tell you what applies when we write your estimate, and we can help with the paperwork.
