Your A/C unit may be freezing up for a variety of reasons, but the most common issues are drainage problems and faulty thermostats.
While in the process of cooling, the water vapor inside the unit condenses into a liquid, then it is supposed to drain outside. If the coils are frozen, the ice causes the drain hole to become blocked.
The unit will still run, but it won’t cool to its full potential and will run up your electric bill in the process.
Also bear in mind that running the unit like this with frozen coils will eventually burn out the compressor, which is the most costly component.
